What we collect
Only what you type into one of two forms. There is nothing else.
Booking a free intro class. Your first and last name, your email address, your phone number if you give one, the age of the fencer, the dates you could come, and anything you write in the message box.
Sending a testimonial. Whether you are a parent, a fencer or someone in the community, your first name, and what you wrote. Only your first name is ever published.
Both forms also store a one-way scrambled version of your internet address. It cannot be turned back into an address. It exists so that a script cannot submit the form a thousand times, and it is used for nothing else.
Children
Most people who fence here are children, so this matters more than the rest of this page.
When you book an intro class we ask the fencer’s age. It decides which class to invite them to — the groups are 8 and under, 9 to 12, 13 to 17, and adults. We do not ask for a child’s name separately from yours, their school, their photograph, or anything else about them.
If a fencer writes a testimonial, we ask them to confirm they are over eighteen or that a parent agrees to it being published. Nothing is published without a coach reading it first, and only a first name ever appears.
If you believe a child has given us something you would rather we did not have, email info@marinfencing.com and we will delete it.
What we do not do
No cookies. Browsing this site sets none at all. There is one, for club staff only, after signing in to the private admin page.
No analytics and no tracking. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no heat mapping, and no third-party script of any kind. We do not know who visits, how often, or where from. The typefaces are served from this website rather than fetched from Google, so loading a page tells nobody anything.
We never sell or share your details for marketing, and we do not add you to a mailing list because you asked about a class.
Who else sees it
Three companies, each doing one job.
Microsoft Azure hosts this site and its database, in the western United States.
Resenddelivers the email that tells us you have asked about a class. Your name, email, phone number, the fencer’s age and your message pass through them to reach us.
DreamHost runs the mailbox that email arrives in.
Our web server keeps ordinary technical logs, as every web server does. They are used to find faults and nothing else.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept while they are useful — a family who asked about a class in the spring often joins in the autumn, and we would rather remember the conversation than start it again.
Testimonials are kept while they are on the site. Ones we decide not to publish are kept too, so that if the same person sends another we know it was already considered.
You can ask us to delete any of it at any time and we will, without asking why.
Asking us for something
Email info@marinfencing.com and ask. You can have a copy of what we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. A real person reads that address, and there is no form to fill in.
Changes
If this changes, the date at the top changes with it. We will not quietly start doing something this page says we do not do.
